Central Robotics Outreach

Hannah Van Liere, Writer

On October 15 the Central robotics team, DC Robotics, hosted an outreach program to get young kids interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). This year, the robotics team went to STEM Night at Garfield Elementary. There, they set up three activities, including Play-Doh building, bridge building with marshmallows and uncooked pasta, and hopscotch programming, where kids could learn how a robot thinks. Events like these are almost completely student organized. Sarah Van Liere, a captain on the robotics team said “A lot of people think robotics is just about building and programming, but a big part of our job is community outreach.” It is the goal of Central’s robotics team to make STEM accessible to everyone and help people get involved.
