Taking a Dive at Regionals

Central’s girls swimming team made it to regionals over the weekend! They did an amazing job, placing second overall to Iowa West. Quite a few of them broke their own records! They won eight out of eleven events, and also had swimmers qualify for State!

The morning started off with the 200 medley relay team of Hannah Cousins, Isabel Heller, Gabbie Hanson and Simone Green breaking the school record, winning the event, qualifying 1st in the state and earning an all american consideration time.  All American status goes to the top 100 teams in the nation. The 200 Individual Medley was won by Isabel Heller, who broke her own school record by 6 seconds, she is currently ranked 3rd in the state. The 50 free was won by Simone Green and she became an automatic qualifier. The 100 fly was won by Hannah Cousins, she broke her own record and is currently ranked 1st in the state.  

Gabbie Hanson also qualified for the event. The 100 free was won by Simone Green and became an automatic qualifier. The 500 free had Hannah Ford finish 6th and Olivia Hopewell finished 7th and both qualified for state. The 200 free relay team of Hannah Cousins, Simone Green, Isabel Heller, and Lauren Valleroy broke their own school record, won the event and is currently ranked 1st in the state. 

 The 100 back was won by Hannah Cousins, and she broke her own school record, AND is currently ranked 1st in the state and is an All American consideration.  Gabbie Hanson finished 4th and qualified for state, way to go! The 100 breaststroke was won by Isabel Heller.  She is an automatic qualifier, and is currently ranked 2nd in the state. Annie Pauwels also finished 4th. The 400 free relay team of Hannah Ford, Gabbie Hanson, Lauren Valleroy and Annie Pauwels  finished 4th and qualified for state. Hannah Cousins and Simone Green tied for regional athlete of the year voted on by all of the regional coaches.  They will be presented with their award at the state meet, which is amazing!
