If you enjoy singing, you’ve probably thought about joining choir, but what is choir like at Central? “I enjoy it [choir], I like singing, I love the choir directors,” says soprano Anna Channel, “You get to connect with everybody and then you get to talk to the teachers and you get to goof around.”
At Central there are four different choirs: Bass Clef, Treble Clef, Concert Choral, and Freshman Chorus, all choirs are led by either Mr.Reese, Mrs.Schrank, or Mr.Keller with Freshman Chorus being led by all three. In choir the teachers try to push you to be the best singer you can be. By being in choir it opens a lot of other opportunities like joining show choir, being a part of the winter concert, singing in a solo ensemble, and so much more. But choir isn’t just about singing, it gives you an opportunity to connect with a lot of people and make great memories.
Because of choir, tenor Nahel Aquino got to be in the winter concert and sing with some local schools at the Adler Theatre, “I think the Adler is really cool…I used to go to North and I got to see a lot of my old friends.” In choir, alto Lola Skiles remembers some silly choir antics, “There was one time Harlan pulled out SpongeBob slipper sneakers in the middle of a choir and then put them on and then took them off, took his socks off and walked around the room with his bare feet on the ground.”
Choir is a fun class to be in and if you ever thought about joining, you should, but Bass Raphael Devasthali brings a word of caution, “A lot of people like to treat it as a class where they don’t have to do anything. and that brings down team morale… I’d recommend joining choir if you want to sing,” and Skiles agrees, “I think you should only join choir if you actually like to sing, it’s not just an easy A.”
Choir opens a lot of doors to a lot of different opportunities: you can make new friends, connect with the directors, and make great memories. If you join, actually apply yourself and you will be amazed at how fun it is.
