Central Blue Devil Productions will present the 2025 Spring musical Hairspray May 1st through May 4th. The cast explains their favorite parts about the show and how they hope the audience will perceive it. The cast explains there are multiple difficult dance numbers in the show. Senior Emma Wheeler says, “It’s either Hairspray because of the vocals or Big Doll House, it’s so hard to do tap in a musical.” Sophomore Connor Darland disagrees and adds , “I can hear the bells, some parts of the choreography can be troubling.” The cast also explains how the show’s 60s era is enjoyable to portray. Sophomore Serena Baker enjoys the fashion and make-up of the 60s, “Because it’s vintage and not seen a lot in our present day and it’s very fun to play.” Sophomore Izzy Johnson adds, “Hairspray being set in the 60’s not only gives an opportunity to show unique fashions, but also tells an important message that anyone can take something away from.”
Not only does the cast enjoy performing this influential show, but they also value the memories made at practice. Hairspray can be enjoyed by all cast members as the musical varies from heartfelt to comical scenes. Wheeler says her favorite line from the show is, “You’re too wide from the back.” Freshman Riley Elingher adds his favorite character from the show is “Miss Motormouth Maybell because she’s the main advocate for the black council and she is someone who has an inspirational role in the show.” Not only does the cast enjoy making memories, they also hope the audience makes memories from the performance. Junior Micah Roldan hopes the audience can take away a positive look on diversity, “I want them to take away the message of inclusivity and that diversity is not a bad thing, and there can be different types of people and it’s really cool and unique. So I hope people can take away a positive view on diversity.”
