Award-winning author, Tiffany D. Jackson, came to Central High School to do a book signing on April 25, 2025 . Jackson has written many books based on true cases and investigations, making many of her books graphic. This is why some of her books are being banned in multiple states in the US. Jackson said, “If your books aren’t being banned, then you’re doing something wrong.” Jackson joked that her books aren’t actually that graphic if people that are banning the books would just read them. People tend to think that one of her books, “Grown” is loosely inspired by the R Kelly case; however, she said that while that may have given her inspiration for writing the book, this is actually a story about a sexual relationship involving a child and an adult based on a true event in her own life. “So when I was 15, so was that sophomore. I was a sophomore, my first quote, unquote, boyfriend was 23 years old, and so it was one of the darkest, it the darkest, darkest secret I ever kept in my family. In fact, my parents didn’t know about this until this book came out, so I actually had to tell them eventually,” revealed Jackson. This is just one of her very interesting and horrific stories. Another one of her books called “The Weight of Blood” is about a girl’s classmates pulling a bad prank on her; she gets revenge in a way that no one would have expected. Jackson does have a book that she wrote while collaborating with Marvel based on the origin story of a character named Storm. This story is out of her comfort zone but has been a very impressive book to write, collaborating with Marvel. Jackson stated at the end of her presentation that she has two new books releasing this year. One being “Blend the Water” which is her first middle grade book releasing July 1, and another called “The Scammer” being released Sept. 30th. Overall, students from Central, Bettendorf, PV, and even Clinton were able to hear her speak about her books and even had the opportunity to get a book signed.
