Sinners was released in 2025 and directed by the visionary Ryan Coogler. Sinners was made in what, in my opinion, is the best year for movies to be released. Sinners is a Southern Gothic horror film, which you don’t see many of in today’s age. This movie explores themes of cultural preservation and the “vampiric” nature of racism.
It starred the one and only Michael B. Jordan, in which he played two twin brothers, Stack and Smoke. Sinners overall, though, is the best movie of 2025 because it refuses to sanitize the Black American experience; they found a way to turn historical trauma into a powerful supernatural reckoning, and I absolutely love it.
The movie took place in a 1930’s type of time, which wasn’t favored by black people; there were still slaves, plantations, and KKK clan members. Although black people did not ask to be brought to America, we were still forced to build, cook, clean, and pick cotton. And so many other things we went through are still to this day a part of our culture, which is why I love this movie. It includes the culture many don’t talk about because we are told to just “ let it go”, sinners choose to explore more of a cultural prevention and the “vampiric” nature of racism, in a way, it suggests that the real ”monsters” aren’t just supernatural ones, but a system that wanted to bleed black American culture dry.
My personal opinion of the strongest part of this whole movie is how they were able to catch the “soul” of that era in a way through Michael Jordan’s performance, like how both of the stack twins defended their community. Michael learned how to make this role his and put so much real energy into it as well as the other members of the cast. And another way this film is absolutely brilliant is just the scenery the way different senses took place and how this is probably one of the only movies that I have never felt was rushed, the timeline, the plot, the story telling all was a big part and the director himself made all of it happen and pop in it own way.
“Sinners”, the best movie ever made, the culture, the music, the vibe, made everything come alive and made it one of the most impactful movies I’ve ever watched which will make me pass it onto my kids and my grandchildren and so on. This movie spoke to me in so many different ways and made me notice a lot more things within my community and love it so much, and hopefully more movies will come out just as good like this but for not Sinners will remain the best movie in my book.
My rating: 5 out of 5 silver bullets
The verdict: This movie earns a perfect score from me because it includes culture, horror. Most movies don’t include this much culture because they are too afraid they are doing too little or too much which is why I love this movie.
