There are many schools in Davenport, Iowa, and in these school zones, the speed limit is 25. This speed limit is to prevent drivers from speeding and potentially hitting or endangering children. To combat speeding, the city of Davenport has decided to create new speed boxes. The speed limit in school zones in Davenport Iowa, is 25, but drivers often fail to follow this limit. For some reason, drivers tend to speed dangerously in school zones, which creates a very dangerous environment for students. The city of Davenport has come up with the idea to create these new speed boxes. Previously, the city would use an automated speed van with cameras on top. These boxes are gray and smaller, a lot smaller than the van, making them harder to detect. The city of Davenport also has other speed cameras around the city, which are fixed and can not be moved. Since these cameras are fixed, they are unconstitutional and will soon be taken down. To combat this the city of Davenport has made the boxes mobile to avoid the law. I personally think that these new speed boxes are a great thing and will be used to reduce the number of speeders. Although the cameras are on twenty-four hours a day, they are only in school zones, so they are easily avoidable. These cameras will save kids’ lives and protect them from people who shouldn’t be on the road. There have been many kids who have lost their loved ones to speeders, and their families have suffered. Some may say that they are a waste of tax dollars and they shouldn’t be a thing. But to these people, I say that these cameras will save lives. There is no reason for people to be speeding in school zones in the first place. And there are many things that we blow tax dollars on that are way less necessary than these speed boxes. There are reasons as to why we shouldn’t have these speed boxes. I believe that the pros far outweigh the cons, and they will do a lot for our community. The speed limit in school zones in Davenport is only 25, but oftentimes people fail to abide by that. These new speed cameras will help tremendously with the speed because no one wants that ticket in the mail
